One of Ontario's largest colleges partnered with Kumaran to validate the modernisation of GeneSIS — a fully functional Student Information and Administration System — from a legacy platform to a modern .NET application. Kumaran's education domain SMEs documented years of complex business rules governing curriculum, registration, scheduling, and Ontario policy compliance, and delivered a rigorous testing strategy covering functional, back-end, system, and end-to-end integration validation across GeneSIS, ACSIS, and GRADS. The result: a transformed application that preserved every business rule and delivered the performance and browser compatibility expected of a modern web platform.
GeneSIS had been developed iteratively by the college over many years, accumulating complex rules for scheduling, student progression, prerequisites, co-requisites, equivalencies, and Ontario policy compliance. The system also managed facilities inventory, OCAS admission integration, role-based access, and centralised reporting for sensitive student data. With functional documentation not always kept up to date, the testing approach required deep domain exploration to surface and validate the full scope of business logic before transformation could be certified complete.
