Wannacry ransomware:

The widely spreading ransomware ‘Wannacry’ struck on 12th May 2017 affecting more than 200,000 organizations in 150 countries. This has hit National Health Service (NHS) trusts in the UK, Spain’s Telefónica, FedEx and Deutsche Bahn leading to operational hardships. Hackers demand a ransom by launching a cyber attack within a network and block the entire system by encrypting all files in the network till the ransom is paid.

According to the Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report 2017, ransomware accounts for 72% of malware incidents in the healthcare industry.

How does Wannacry spread?

Wannacry spreads across local networks by encrypting all files one after the other through infected Windows Systems and systems that have not been updated with recent security updates.
